[audio][ger] Georg Schramm: Kleinkunstpreis Europa-Park (CDU)

Now there’s a new magazin by David Carson: Carson Mag.

Also:  David Carson great TEDtalk (back in February 2003):

Deepwater Horizon: Where’s the oil?

tl;dr:  on the bottom of the sea…

“University of Georgia oceanographer, Dr. Samantha Joye, conducted her third, month-long research cruise in the Gulf of Mexico in late November and early December. She continued her pioneering research into the long term impact of the BP Deepwater Horizon oil blowout. On this trip, she discovers a vast amount of oil on the bottom and marine life that definitely show effects of the oil’s pollution.”

Deepwater Horizon: Aftermath

Remember Deepwater Horizon? (if not see wikipedia Largest oil spills)

It’s all good now, isn’t it?
Where did all the spilled oil go?

A team of scientists is trying to find out, and if you love horror stories, you can read their blog where they post their findings: http://gulfblog.uga.edu/

excerpt:
“… Sulfide chimneys at a brine seep? That’s pretty unusual …”
“… but most of the surface features were mineral crusts, which is strange. …”
“… we expected to retrieve something similar but much to our surprise, the mud recovered from the more shallow (2000 vs. 2200m) central basin was red …”
“… As we headed towards the bottom, we passed through several different interfaces with thick brine fog; …”
“… Over about 150m of depth, the salinity increases from that of normal seawater (about 35 PSU) to over 250 PSU. …”

[news] 1/3 of Detroit’s neighborhoods are empty

Capitalism and greed eat their children. The once proud “Motor City” collapses after investing in the wrong industries for decades.  Population went down from 1.8 million in the 1950s to 900.000 in 2008, and the city now plans to demolish 10.000 homes.
